So does giving the ability to read to a child really give that big head start in their life?  You must teach your baby to read at some point anyway, so why not start young, right?

We do understand overall, kids with normal abilities (i.E. Without major learning disabilities), who begin later on, normally will catch up to kids who do achieve an early start.  Also the most up to date and substantial international study ever conducted (PISA) assessed the reading achievements of 15 year-old children in over 58 countries.

The nation that did the best was Finland, a nation where simply 9 years of school education is necessary and where school doesn’t begin till age 7.

Both, teachers and parents need to take thought in assigning work to their babies that is too challenging for them or inappropriate. World renown developmental psychologist Vygotsky, demonstrated that babies learn not while doing things that are too easy and repetitive, or when too challenging and frustrating, but when the task is just in advance of their capabilities.

The greatest learning activities for your baby are not necessarily those which they can complete alone, but rather, those which are a little in advance of their capability, which with help, support or interaction from a more skilled person, commonly another adult, they can complete the task successfully.  Your Baby Can Read is one of those products.

We should additionally look at the breakthroughs in the study of the human brain. Science at this point, shows us that because we are developing millions of synapses every day in the first 4 years of life, the easier it is for us to be taught brand new things during this period, like language and reading.

This therefore makes much stronger connections, in essence these connections become even more hard wired into our brain. The more connections we make and the stronger these connections become and the better our mind works, period.  This would make sense then to teach your baby to read during this time and probably you could easily teach multiple languages too.

Some would argue that baby are just supposed to be just that and introducing a child that young to formal education will develop problems related to stress and maybe some learning disorders.  We don’t think so, teach your baby to read, just do so in moderation.
